6 Easy Steps to Creating an Efficient Inspection Program

Successful inspection programs ensure everyone is on the same page in order to keep your employees safe and assets running sufficiently. Here are 6 steps to help run a more efficient inspection program:

Set goals
Set a series of goals you want to reach based on your inspection frequencies and grading criteria. Use the goals to compare your assets or services to your company’s standards. Make sure the goals are realistic by gauging where you are now and where you want to be.

Establish a frequency
Whether you’re inspecting assets or a service, establish a schedule of how frequent inspections should occur. Base your frequencies off dates or timeframes from when the service is completed and use alarms or alerts to help remind inspectors when the inspection occurs. The more frequent inspections occur, the more data you collect to make qualified decisions.

Create grading criteria
Create grading criteria for each task in your inspections. Examples of different grading systems include ratings of 1-5 and A-F as well as color coding and yes/no responses. Make sure everyone using the system knows exactly what each rating means. It is helpful to include images or short descriptions so all your inspectors grade the same way.

It’s important to train inspectors on your grading criteria, frequencies and goals. Take the time to demonstrate proper inspection techniques for each asset or location.

Build checklists
